A number of chemicals and solvents may be utilized in order to satisfy our desire for vanity in our vehicles. While the final result looks great, in most cases the same or better results can be obtained through paintless dent repair, which uses no harmful chemicals and restores your automobile's finish to its pre-incident state.
There are three main ways in which harmful chemicals enter the body: breathing, absorption through the skin, and swallowing (less common forms of chemical entry include injection or entry through the eyes). Most commonly harmful chemicals are absorbed into the body through the breathing in of gases, vapors, mists, dusts and aerosols released into the atmosphere from industrial processes. One such offender is auto body shops. The byproducts of body shop work may include harmful chemicals such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), benzene, formaldehyde, acetone, acid mists, solvents, metal fumes, lead fumes, and zinc fumes. Additionally various detergents, enamels, paint aerosols, paint thinners, resins, abrasives, and cutting oils can be released into the atmosphere during the auto repair process. Many jurisdictions require certain safeguards be followed to minimize (but not eliminate) environmental contamination resulting from the discharge of auto body repair shop chemicals. Recapturing mechanisms are somewhat effective at http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=paintless+dent+repair+tools decreasing the amount of harmful chemicals released into the environment, but they are not fail safe. Furthermore, even if recapturing is successful, the harmful chemical byproducts must still be disposed of in some fashion. Quite simply, everything ends up in the environment in one form or another. Much of this is unnecessary. There is nothing wrong with having a desire to protect your investment in your automobile and wanting to keep it looking in great shape. However, the vast majority of repairs that have been traditionally performed by body shops can now be done via paintless dent repair technology. For more information, please visit www.fixadent.com You probably don't want to drive around with an unsightly dent in your passenger-side door. So, what should you do about that baseball or other car door-induced ding in your car? Here are three approaches:
Try to fix it yourself If the paint isn't affected by the dent, you can try the do-it-yourself route. You will need some tools, including a few different sizes of body hammers. You will also need some dollies. Check out what tools you already have at your disposal and see which DIY method works best in your situation. If you have a little ding, you may be able to fix the problem with a hair dryer and dry ice or a can of condensed air. (You don't want to try this on a dent with any paint damage.) Heat the dented area with a hair dryer, making sure to hold it five to seven inches away from the panel. Keep the hair dryer moving, and continue for one to three minutes. The area should be warm to touch. While it is still warm, apply the cold component. Make sure you wear thick gloves when you handle dry ice. Swirl the dry ice around, or spray the compressed air on the dent. The metal should react to the cold and flatten out. A word of warning. Terry Haltom, education manager for the collision repair and refinish (CRRT) program at Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Sacramento, Calif., says that he does not recommend using do-it-yourself products because the products use a glue that can cause damage to your paint and won't work out the complex dents. Settle for a temporary fix If you don't have the time or the budget to fix a down-to-the-metal problem right away, you can buy time with a temporary fix. "Remember that bare metal and the environment don't like each other very much," says Matt Cutaia, vice president collision manager at Gates Automotive Center in Rochester, N.Y. "Left untreated, exposed, raw metal on the body of your car can rust in just a matter of weeks. Add in the oxidizing effects of road salt, and you can cut that time down to days in this portion of the country during the winter months. " You can use Vaseline to seal out moisture and create a barrier, but Cutaia says that you will have to clean off the Vaseline and reapply frequently for this to work effectively. You can also apply clear nail polish to the scratched area. "It may not look the most appealing, but you'll have the peace of mind in knowing that rust won't develop quite as quickly," Cutaia says. Another option involves giving your car a quick paint touch-up. Find out the manufacturer's code for the color of your car so you get it right the first time. Leave the fixing to the professionals Haltom lists the following steps that a technician will do to fix a dent: The technician will remove the paint from the dent. Then, they will work the metal out so the least amount of body filler or putty is needed to finalize the repair. They will do some sanding of the filler to make it flat, smooth and match the body contour. At this point, the tech will feather out the paint (sand it), so when primer is applied it will be the correct thickness. Typically, adjacent panels will have to be scuffed and painted for a proper color match and blend. At this point, it gets detailed. Both Cutaia and Haltom recommend taking your car to a professional for serious dents and long-term fixes. The average price for dent repair depends on the size of the damaged area and where you go to get it fixed. Paintless Dent Repair is the fastest, most affordable and least intrusive process for dent repair.

But the reality is she had wet carpets, wet walls, insulation, possibly electrical, as well as mechanical systems that took on water. And that doesn't even include all of the...
Port Richey Restaurants
We just spent a week in Port Richey on one of our Florida vacations and discovered some great restaurants. My family and I love to eat, so dining out is always a big part of any family vacation. We have our old favorites that we frequent often, but we also enjoy trying new restaurants and new foods. We weren't disappointed with what we found in Port Richey! For the most part, we stuck to the waterfront restaurants. The Pithlachascotee River runs through Port Richey, where it's referred to as the "Cotee." We were staying in a rental house on the river, so the restaurants closest to us were all on the river, too. In fact, each one has a dock so that you can take a boat to the restaurant instead of driving. Just tie up at the dock and enjoy a great meal while watching the traffic on the river. Catches Waterfront Grill We ate here several times, and it was wonderful! The restaurant's interior was large and spacious, with lots of glass for viewing the waterfront. Outside, there's more seating, but since it was about 100 degrees in Port Richey at the time, we decided to sit inside where it was nice and cool. Our food was great, and the service was friendly and efficient. I thought the prices were reasonable, too, for such a restaurant. In fact, they have a two for $20 special during the day. If you go at night, you'll enjoy free valet parking. We absolutely loved the Catches' oysters - fresh oysters topped with crabmeat and cheese, then baked. We actually became kind of addicted to these and returned several times for more! We also liked the crab and lobster hush puppies. The fried shrimp were also very good, although we weren't impressed with the steak kabobs. Melissa loved her grilled mahi wrap. If you order a dish made with a fish called "grouper cousin," it's not grouper - it's basa. Basa tastes very much like grouper, but it's not as expensive. We rarely order dessert, but one day my two daughters and I went to Catches and had appetizers and desserts. Be sure to try the orange sunshine cake and the fried cheesecake! Rum River Bar and Grill Another Port Richey restaurant we tried was the Rum River Bar and Grill. This place is located next to Catches, and it's like a huge tiki bar. All seating is outdoors, under the shade of a thatched roof. We ordered appetizers at RumRiver. We had the crab cakes, the coconut shrimp, and the hot wings. All were tasty, but we especially enjoyed the crab cakes - lots of yummy crab with very little breading. Rum River also serves grouper, frog legs, gator tail, calamari, conch fritters, and several sandwiches, burgers, salads, and entrees with beef, chicken, and fresh seafood. If you prefer indoor dining, you can sit in the air conditioning of Catches and order from the Rum River menu. Hooters This is a typical Hooters, as far as the menu and food is concerned. What makes this place special is the location - right on the riverfront. The restaurant's atmosphere is laid back and fun, with great views of the Cotee River. Of course, Hooter's is known for its wings and ckicken strips, but they also have a surprisingly good fish sandwich at this one. They also have several varieties of steamed seafood, including crab legs, oysters, shrimp, and clams. Whiskey River Sports Grill This is another Port Richey restaurant that's located right on the CoteeRiver. It used to be Fatty and Mabel's. The restaurant is large and is a favorite with Port Richey locals. In fact, we went there one day to try it out but couldn't get in. Perhaps you'll have better luck! The Crab Shack Of all the places we dined on our family vacation in Port Richey, this was our favorite. We almost didn't eat here because all seating is outside, and we were afraid that we'd be too hot to enjoy our noon meal. Fortunately, we were wrong. The dining area is under a thatched tiki roof, and fans are everywhere, so we were perfectly comfortable. You can also sit on the dock, if you prefer. This place is far from fancy. We were served on paper plates with plastic knives and forks, but we didn't care. The food was awesome! We had grouper fingers, cheese fries, crab-stuffed mushrooms, fried shrimp, hush puppies, onion rings, and a grilled mahi sandwich. My grandson, Tristan, had the kids' pizza. Everything was wonderful! And it was cheap - a seafood basket was under $10. If you want large fried shrimp, order the buffalo shrimp without sauce. Otherwise, you'll get popcorn shrimp. Not only was the food great - the atmosphere was, too. Everyone was friendly, and there was live entertainment. The décor was whimsical, which added to the fun. For example, on the dock was a large plastic shark with a human foot sticking out of its mouth, which Tristan found very amusing. At our table was a sign that read, "We discovered our kid was allergic to cats, so we had to get rid of him." This place is super fun and is a great place to take kids. And for you smokers, you can smoke at your table. If you're ever in Port Richey and decide to visit the Crab Shack, ask for Vickie. She's a super waitress! |
